With the purpose of continuing to strengthen cooperation ties between Colombia and the United States, General Luis Carlos C贸rdoba, Commander of the Colombian Aerospace Force, received Major General David A. Mineau, Commander of the Southern Air Forces, AFSOUTH, to address issues that led strengthening military operation resources and strategies to confront transnational organized crime in the region.
This meeting reinforces the military resources, as well as the trust and support between the Air Forces, especially in the context that leads to improving the detection and monitoring systems of illegal activities, including drug trafficking by air; in addition to other illegal phenomena that hit the countries of the hemisphere.
Within the framework of the visit carried out at the Military Transport Air Command, CATAM, the delivery of the TPS-70 radar was made, which will contribute to the technical-military transfer to potentiate the surveillance and airspace control systems, the permanent monitoring of any type of threat and provide permanent protection to territorial sovereignty.
Major General Mineau highlighted the importance of working together to face common security challenges, highlighting the role of the Colombian Aerospace Force in the hemisphere in terms of training and instruction, bilateral cooperation being fundamental to maintain high standards of interoperability.
In the same way, he mentioned that these new technological tools lead to promote a comprehensive work, aligned to the Zeus air interception strategy and the priority for both air forces to continue participating in military operation exercises, which contribute to strengthening the competencies, skills and knowledge of the crews in the framework of air operations.
During the geostrategic visit the delegation in the same way got to know the resources of the Air Combat Command No. 5, CACOM 5, in Rionegro, Antioquia, and the No. 1 Air Combat Command, CACOM 1, in Puerto Salgar, Cundinamarca, with the aim of identifying new cooperation opportunities that provide resources, technical assistance and training.
