More than five thousand people in Alta Guajira regionwere benefited with humanitarian aid

 116 tons of humanitarian aid were transported on board the Ship ARC Golfo de Urabá of the Colombian Navy, to the people of Bahía Honda, Puerto Estrella and Puerto López, in the department of La Guajira.

 

 

 

 

 

In an inter-institutional effort conducted by the Colombian Navy, the National Disaster Risk Management Unit – UNGRD and different organizations of the national order, it was possible to benefit more than 5,000 thousand people from Alta Guajira, including families belonging to 18 Wayuu indigenous communities, with the distribution of 116.7 tons of humanitarian aid.

 

 

 

 

 

Among the aid distributed, 88,358 kilograms of food kits, 3,013 toilet kits, 1,500 water bottles, 20 thousand gallons of drinking water in five-liter bottles and more than 3,500 items corresponding to sheets and hammocks stand out, as well as items donated by the Colombian Red Cross, to bring the Unified action of the State to the vulnerable communities of the department of La Guajira, which were hit by the transit of Tropical Storm Julia and the growing heavy climate caused by rains.

 

 

 

 

 

For more than eight days, assistance activities were carried out free of charge, in which, with great professionalism and responsiveness on the part of the crew of the Amphibious Landing Ship ARC Golfo de Urabá, it was possible to transport, collect and distribute humanitarian aid accompanied by of officials of the National Disaster Risk Management Unit and the support of the National Army, strengthening the quality of life and the social fabric of the inhabitants of this region of the country.

 

 

 

 

 

For its part, the Ballenas Coast Guard Station supported the activity with the deployment of Units that ensured maritime safety at all times, on the coasts of Riohacha. In the same way, the Authorities of Puerto de Riohacha and Puerto Bolívar carried out a detailed monitoring of the operation and the meteorological conditions of the maritime sector of La Guajira.

 

 

 

 

 

The Colombian Navy will continue coordinating efforts with national, local and governmental law enforcement agencies to continue positively impacting the most vulnerable communities in the Colombian geography, generating safe environments that make closer ties of partnership with the inhabitants; in the same way, it ratifies its unrestricted commitment to contribute to humane security and the construction of a better country.
