Interception of boat with irregular migrants on the island of San Andr茅s

Units of the Colombian Navy safeguarded the lives of 12 irregular migrants of Cuban nationality, including two minors, who intended to leave illegally of the Island of San Andr茅s, apparently bound for Central America, aboard the ship Fanan and Jos茅.

The operation began after the Traffic and Maritime Surveillance Tower was informed that the ship was making suspicious routes north of the capital city of the Archipelago.

For this reason, a rapid reaction unit of the San Andr茅s Coast Guard Station stationed in the area for maritime patrols was notified to carry out the respective inspection.

Once the boat was intercepted, it was possible to see that the boat had on board 10 adults whose ages ranged 20 and 59, as well as two minors, one and 13 years old. Taking into account that they would be carrying out an irregular transit in the insular department, the boat was taken along with its crew members to the dock of the Samuel May Corpus Coast Guard Station.

Once on land, the people were put into custody of the authority, the adults to Migraci贸n Colombia, while the minors were handed over to the Colombian Institute of Family Wellbeing ICBF.

Over the past month, the Colombian Navy on the island of San Andr茅s has intercepted five boats that transported 48 irregular migrants in similar conditions.
