In Cartagena, more than 230 kilograms of cocaine were found by troops hidden on a cargo ship

En Cartagena, incautados más de 230 kilogramos de cocaína ocultos en buque de carga

It is estimated that more than 580 thousand doses of the drug could be obtained from this illegal shipment.

Coast Guard units of the Colombian Navy, during an operation against the transnational crime of drug trafficking, found an illegal merchandise of 232 kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride, which were hidden inside a cargo container, on a ship, for maritime transport.

This result was possible thanks to the constant control and surveillance work carried out by the authorities at the port terminals of Cartagena and on the maritime communication lines of the region, which led to the detection of possible contamination by narcotics on a Singapore-flagged ship.

Immediately, a Rapid Reaction Unit – URR, of the Cartagena Coast Guard Station, was deployed in order to verify the information. Upon finding the suspicious container, its contents were inspected and an illegal merchandise of eight sacks was found with 239 rectangular packages, similar to those used by criminal organizations for drug trafficking, so it was found and taken to a safe place, where officials of the Technical Investigation Corps - CTI, of the Attorney General's Office, conducted the Approved Preliminary Identification Test – PIPH, which left positive result for 232 kilograms of cocaine hydrochloride.

Through this finding, the entry of eleven million dollars into the criminal organizations was prevented, as well as the commercialization of more than 580 thousand doses of cocaine on the international illicit market. During the operation, no arrests were reported and the material found was put into custody of the authorities.
